A Poet's Words

One of my favorite quotes comes from William Wordsworth: "Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings."
However, another quote from one of my favorite actors comes from Will Smith, "I'm a poet, so I own the whole rap industry."
Now, I'm pretty sure if Smith were to look at these two quotes he'd go, "Oh hell no!"
Of course, he says that to just about everything--seriously, watch one of his movies. Anyhow, I feel that Wordsworth was correct--back then. His words fall flat when you look at the modern evolution of poetry--rap. There is nothing spontaneous or 'feely' with singing about popping caps in peoples asses, smoking drogs, or screwing hookers. Rap is an embarrassment to poetry. Yes, there are some artists who do it justice, but the good are outweighed by the bad.
As for Will Smith owning "the whole rap industry," I say naw--his rap ain't the greatest.

Walking into Google

Google's filled with surprises. First, I stumble upon the case of misogyny, and now Google's pulling the great wisdom of Boromir. I noticed this a while ago, figured some people might've missed it.
Go to google maps. Have the starting point, A, as the Shire and the destination, B, as Mordor. Then, click the walking button--the one with the person--and hit the get directions button. And voila:

The wise words of the late Boromir
It's quoting Lord of the Rings here--for those who didn't catch onto the pop culture reference. Anyhow, kudos to Google.

Memevolution

It's begun. Memes not only represent useless pop culture references, but now they actually reflect real life. The people who frequently use them--university students--have taken to making/posting memes that reflect their university and student life.
Posted by a Waterloo student.
Now that meme culture reflects life, you jelly?

Google & Misogyny

People've been posting all over Facebook about Google and a little mishap with the translator. Apparently when you type in, "men are men and men should clean the house" it tries to correct you to "men are men and women should clean the house".

Seriously, try it!
People are blaming Google for being sexist. But, it might not be Google's fault--it could be a hiccup in the programming. Besides, it's giving people a good laugh, so who's to point fingers?

Happy Holidays

Now it may be past Christmas, but I would like to wish a Merry Belated Christmas upon everyone. For those who don't celebrate the holiday, I wish the greatest of the holiday of which you celebrate at this time.
As follows is my favorite Christmas movie:

Examination Frustration

Come monday, classes end at the University of Windsor. Following this, exams begin on Thursday.
I am lucky to have only three exams. My courses rely heavily on assignments. Hence, exams aren't necessary.
However, my heart goes out to those struggling through five or more exams. This time of year is stressful. But, at least there is the Christmas break to look forward too: family, dinner, presents, relaxation.
Just two more weeks. Two more, and it's home sweet home.

Water World

I've been up since 7:30 a.m.--bailing out my basement.
At least 680 L of water totalled. The house I'm renting has no sub-pump. Yet, I live in Windsor, the current 'rain capital' of Ontario this year (possibly even Canada). I think it's silly that my landlord hasn't installed one. The city offers a program to subsidize home-owners for installing them. But, I suppose he has his own reasons. Perhaps he doesn't know--the city isn't the greatest at advertising free money.
Anyhow, I skipped class and spent somewhere around three hours shovelling water with a bucket. My basement flooded--reason being the fact that it's raining outside and the city's drainage system failed.
Yes, I joked about surfing and sailing the treacherous tides of my under-home sea, but from now on I will always feel sorry for someone dealing with a watery basement.
